Alpaca Wedding Shoot

What’s better than a breathtaking outdoor wedding in Colorado? A breathtaking outdoor wedding with animals! This time we’re not talking dogs, as much as we love a good dog in a tuxedo. We’re talking about sweet, fuzzy, a little bit sassy, alpacas! My good friend Sarah of Sarah Garrett Photography had long dreamed of doing a shoot with alpacas and this October we brought that dream to life!

The Venue

Since the most important part of this shoot was the location (that’s where the alpacas are after all) we were so excited when Las Bonitas Alpaca Farm opened up their doors (or gates) for us! Located in Black Forest Colorado, Las Bonitas Alpaca Farm is home to dozens of alpacas along with a handful of dogs and cats! Las Bonitas is spanish for “pretty little ones” and their girls knew they were model quality, just look at those eyelashes!

The Cake

Happy Bake Shop provided us with a gorgeous 2 tier naked cake that we adorned with flowers, accessories, and an incredible gold alpaca cake topper! We set the cake in the middle of the woods, because why not? ;) We finished off the display with a geometric gold garland, but almost didn’t get a chance to photograph the final result! When I left to greet Sarah, I was under the impression that the dogs on the ranch were securely outside of the fence, but when we returned they had helped themselves to a few bites! By some stroke of luck the front was pristine and we were still able to capture the display beautifully!

The Sweetheart Table

After the near disastrous cake photos, we hauled the 3ft table along with chairs, place settings, and decor across one of the alpaca pastures to set up an intimate sweetheart table display complete with rentals from Colorado Party Rentals and extras from Hobby Lobby. These models deserve a round of applause because in true Colorado fashion, the weather that day was unpredictable and they ended up posing in 40 degree weather!

The Lounge

Since Sarah had dreamed of this day for so long, she had plenty of time to think about what she wanted out of the photos. She knew she wanted a lounge area and found the perfect decor items to pull one together! The alpaca painting surrounded by candles and flowers was the perfect addition, but the alpacas themselves ended up being a little nervous to shoot in front of the hanging piece!

The Flowers

No woodsy romantic alpaca shoot is complete without some gorgeous flowers from Madelyne Claire Floral! They gave us 2 different bouquets that doubled as our sweetheart table centerpiece along with flower necklaces for the alpacas! We had to move fast because the alpacas discovered just how tasty the flowers were!

The Stationery

My girl Hannah of Anchored Publishing is always quick to help me out on projects and she never disappoints! She put together this custom suite for us and we were over the moon when we saw the proofs! They fit perfectly with the rest of the decor items and the vibe of the shoot in general and are now proudly on display in my home office!

The Crew

We were so grateful to all of the people that came together to make this project a reality, including Rachel Schrepel Wedding Photography, our lovely models, our hair and makeup artist Misty Dawn, and all of the vendors that donated their time and goods to us! Despite a few hiccups, it was an incredibly cool experience. If you’re looking to include alpacas in your wedding day or photo shoot, reach out to Las Bonitas Alpaca Ranch, they’re incredible to work with!
