If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Kari Geha of Kari Geha Photography, you would know that she is fun loving, sweet, and oh so creative! Not long after I started my company, she reached out to collaborate on a shoot and I knew it would be an incredible one! Pretty soon we were meeting with Brynn of Brave Brynn Studio and the ideas were flowing, eventually landing us at the Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan Colorado! Despite the sunburns, cold air, and what seemed to be 100mph winds, we still managed to pull off some breathtaking photos and a lot of laughs!
The Venue:
The cheapest (and often most beautiful) venue that Colorado has to offer is mother nature! Paint Mines Interpretive Park, an area that I knew nothing about until a few months ago, is tucked away in the tiny town of Calhan but offers nothing short of spectacular views. Brynn, Kari, and I made the trip to visit the site a few weeks before the shoot and the minute we arrived we knew we had made the right decision! The grand rock formations are lined with vibrant pinks, purples, golds, and whites and needed little to no decoration, but that didn’t stop us from going all out!
The Cake:
Pam of Nothing Bundt Cakes was quick to sign on for this shoot as well, and we were so glad she did! She provided us with a fabulous bundt cake, a few smaller cakes, and a dozen bundtinis that came together to form a cake table out of a fairytale. The gold of the cake stands was complimented by the gold of the rocks, and the biggest bundt was dressed to the nines with flowers, feathers, and a sparkling gold cake topper! Dragging the 3 foot round through the park and up the rocks seemed like a walk in the park when the final product came together.
The Flowers:
Kari took no time deciding who we should bring on for flowers, her “work wife” Lindsay of Fairytale Floral Co was the perfect fit! She provided us with the most beautiful, whimsical floral pieces we could have wished for, including a flower crown fit for a queen. The beautiful bouquet doubled as décor for the sweetheart table and brought the entire shoot together. We wanted to create a boho fantasy in the park and thanks to Lindsay we were able to pull it off.
The Models:
One of the most challenging things to find for a styled shoot is a good model! Professionals cost money, and friends and colleagues have full time jobs to maneuver. Luckily our hair and makeup artist Taylor did us a big favor by doubling as a model with boyfriend Fernando! We are also forever indebted to professional model Kiah for joining us on this adventure! The 3 did better than we could have ever hoped and Taylor and Fernando proved themselves to be naturals. Their beyond gorgeous gowns were provided by Blue Bridal and gave me a serious case of bridal gown fever!
The Stationery:
This shoot would not have been as magical as it was if it weren’t for Brynn, our stationer and master of all things scrolly! Not only did she bring a simple but breathtaking invitation suite to tie the event together, but she made individual place cards using agate slices, as well as a floor length mirror filled with incredible calligraphy (not to mention she is left handed)! The vendors that went above and beyond for this experience made it one to remember, and not just because of the sunburn I nursed afterwards!
