If you read my “Shedding for the Wedding” blog then you already know that body image is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. There is so much pressure put on brides to lose weight and look perfect on their wedding day when in reality the success of your marriage has very little to do with appearance alone. We all want to feel confident and beautiful in our wedding photos, but a lot of that confidence comes from hard work and I’m not talking in the gym! Rather than focusing on the number on the scale, focus on how you feel, what is important to you, and what habits make you feel your best and happiest! So how can a boudoir shoot help with this process?
Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
Unless you’re a professional model, being in front of the camera likely makes you a little nervous. Add lingerie (or lack thereof) into the mix and the prospect seems even scarier. I urge you to get past those nerves and give it a shot, the more you push yourself to love the skin you’re in, the more natural it will feel! Plus, a good boudoir photographer will do their best to make you at ease, including leaving wardrobe up to you! If you want to keep a robe on, go for it! You don’t have to go all out with your first shoot, just push yourself to the point of growth.
Appreciate Your Art
When you get those photos back, don’t dive in assuming you’re not going to love them. Appreciate your body for what it is and what it does! Every body type is gorgeous and the point of your shoot was to realize just that! Whether you display your artwork in your home or keep it hidden for just your eyes (and your partners) love it and love that you had the confidence to strip down and strut your stuff!
Share with your Partner
Your fiance is marrying you because they love every part of you, so imagine how excited they’ll be to have you showing it off! Once you’ve had a chance to pick your favorites, share them with your partner and see which are their favorites, it may surprise you! We are often so critical of ourselves that we miss what others love about us and our bodies. Your engagement is a special time to grow as a couple and as individuals, so let your partner in on your struggles and triumphs and cherish your photos together!
Now get out there and book your shoot!
Special thank you to Denny Fenbers Photography for sharing your images and for helping women appreciate the skin they’re in!
